Alstom to upgrade gas turbines at UAE power plant

Alstom has secured a contract from the Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer) – the oil-refining branch of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), to partially upgrade four Alstom GT13E2 gas turbines installed at the 500 MW Ruwais gas-fired power plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The upgrade will be installed during a major overhaul carried out at the plant.

The contract will include to supply of spare parts, major overhaul of each of the plant’s four GT13E2 gas turbines and a partial ‘MXL’ upgrade of the gas turbines. The ‘MXL’ upgrade technology offers the operational flexibility of ‘M’ mode for increased power and efficiency, or ‘XL’ mode for increased lifetime and extended inspection intervals. Overhaul work is scheduled for completion by end 2013.

Sylvain Hijazi, country president of Alstom UAE, said, “This order reflects Takreer’s confidence in Alstom’s technology and service capabilities. This will be the third major overhaul that we will be executing at the Ruwais plant and we are confident that like the previous projects, this upgrade will increase the competitiveness of our customer’s asset.”
