Aggreko (LSE: AGK) has announced that it has activated two gas-fired power plants in Africa generating a combined total capacity of 220 MW.

Earlier this week, the Glasgow-based company successfully commissioned 100 MW of additional generation at a facility in the Ivory Coast, taking the total capacity of the Vridi plant to 200 MW.

Meanwhile in mid-June, Aggreko, which is led by Rupert Soames (pictured), also completed the commissioning of 122 MW of gas-fired plant at Ressano Garcia in Mozambique.

This second phase of what is the world’s first cross-border interim power plant is now supplying 90 MW to NamPower, the Namibian state utility and 32 MW to EDM, the Mozambican electricity supply utility.
