The company behind the deal to export 5000 MW of electricity from the Irish midlands to the UK through subsea cabling is set to hold a major supply chain conference in Ireland in order to attract the manufacturing infrastructure it needs.

Mainstream Renewable Power is developing the $8bn ‘Energy Bridge’ project and its chief, Eddie O’Connor, told the Irish Independent, that given the scale of the project, it would make more sense for the manufacturers to establish bases in Ireland.

The scheme will involve the erection of about 1,600 wind turbines and involve the laying of hundreds, if not thousands of miles of cabling in order to provide the UK National Grid with power from Irish wind farms.
