Another German gas power plant to close

Statkraft is set to close a second gas-fired power plant in Germany as market conditions continue to bite.

The Norwegian state-owned utility has announced that it will close the 510 MW ‘Robert Frank’ installation at Landesbergen in the Summer.

Dr. Jàƒ¼rgen Tzschoppe, senior Vice President continental energy at Statkraft is quoted in the Gas to Power Journal as saying ,”We cannot justify keeping a reserve unit in the portfolio while the efficient power plants in Knapsack and Herdecke are hardly running.”

“The plant is a cheap reserve in comparison to other technologies but we don’t get any compensation for keeping such a reserve alive,” he added.

A biomass plant also located at Landesbergen will continue to operate at the site.
