Engineering company ABB is to build the electrical and automation systems at Germany’s largest waste-to-energy CHP plant to supply a 460 ha chemical and pharmaceutical park, Infraserv Höchst.
Scheduled for completion in 2009, the new power plant will help Infraserv Höchst supply power and heat to the 90 companies with production and R&D facilities at the site, near Frankfurt-am-Main.
ABB’s contract covers the entire scope of electrical and automation products and systems for the cogeneration plant, which will produce 70 MWe and 250,000 tonnes of steam.
The plant will incinerate up to 675,000 tonnes of pre-sorted waste a year at 90% efficiency in one of the world’s largest fluidized bed combustors.
ABB was awarded the contract by developers, Japanese engineering company Ebara Corp.
