Waste management firm earmarks CHP for Cork

Eras Eco, an Irish waste management company, is planning a waste to power plant in east Cork, southern Ireland.Youghal Cork

The €6m investment would transform food waste, via natural anaerobic digestion, into enough electricity to power 3,000 homes.

The Irish Examiner reports that the company will build the plant at its existing facility at Foxhole in Youghal. Work on the facility, which has full planning permission, will start over the coming months, creating up to 20 jobs during the construction phase.

The waste gas will be converted into electricity at an on-site combined heat and power plant. The facility will operate under a licence from the Environmental Protection Agency.
