Duke Energy will install a 36 MW energy storage and power management system at its 153 MW Notrees Windpower Project in Texas.

Duke chose Xtreme Power to design, install and operate the 36 MW-capacity Dynamic Power Resource system at the wind farm. Duke said in late 2009 it would match a $22 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to install large-scale batteries capable of storing electricity.

Duke Energy will work with the Energy Reliability Council of Texas to integrate the storage system into the state’s independent power grid. The system is expected to come online by late 2012.
