COGEN Europe has welcomed Shell as a new member to the association.

The global energy company is a major user of combined heat and power on its refineries. It uses advanced technologies and aims at an innovative approach to help build a sustainable energy future. As energy projects become more complex and more technically demanding, Shell believes their engineering expertise will be a deciding factor in the growth of its businesses.

“We are pleased to join COGEN Europe in helping policymakers design EU energy, climate and industrial policies that work in harmony to harness the potential of cogeneration”, said Wouter Koopman, the Affairs Manager for Gas at Shell.

“Our key strengths include the development and application of technology, the financial and project management skills that allow us to deliver large field development projects, and the management of integrated value chains. Our strategy seeks to reinforce our position as a leader in the oil and gas industry, while helping to meet global energy demand in a responsible way. Safety and environmental and social responsibility are at the heart of our activities. Oil and gas are a vital part of the global energy mix. Our role is to deliver energy to society in affordable, environmentally and socially responsible ways for a sustainable future.”

“We seek a high standard of performance, maintaining a strong and growing long-term position in the competitive environments in which we operate. Across all our upstream and downstream operations, we strive for improved energy efficiency and work closely with our customers, our partners and policymakers to advance a more efficient and sustainable use of energy and natural resources. The wider use of cogeneration is key to deliver that.”

COGEN Europe is the voice of the European cogeneration sector.
