Plans for a marine energy test site in the UK have taken a step further with the appointment of a company to carry out environmental support.
Marine Energy Wales has hired consultancy RPS to provide support services for the Marine Energy Test Area project in the Milford Haven Waterway in Wales.
The project will see the creation of a series of non-grid connected areas suitable for a range of component, sub-assembly and marine energy device tests.
The à‚£1.9m ($2.4m) project, which is being supported by EU and Welsh government funds, aims to provide early stage device developers with an easy access testing facility to de-risk future deployments and drive down the cost of energy.
RPS will manage the Environmental Impact Assessment and Habitat Regulation Assessment for the project as well as supporting the Marine Energy Wales team to carry out stakeholder engagement activities.
RPS has previously provided similar services for a combined heat and power plant and Pembroke combined-cycle gas turbine plant ” both in Wales ” and the European Marine Energy Centre in Scotland.
