Veolia has won a €450 million ($500 million) contract to operate the largest independent biomass power plant in the Republic of Ireland over 15 years.

Awarded by Mayo Renewable Power, the contract concerns a 42.5 MW plant in Killala, County Mayo. In addition to operating and maintaining the power production plant and the adjacent fuel processing plant, Veolia will also supply the total biomass fuel requirement for the facility.

The plant is due to be in commercial operation in mid-2017.
