UN Secretary-General backs renewable energy future

United Nations’ Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has said that a doubling of the share of renewable energy in the global power mix is “ambitious but achievable”.

Speaking in Abu Dhabi yesterday ahead of the World Future Energy Summit which begins today, he said the “benefits far outweigh the costs”.

Hydro, wind and other renewable energy technologies ” large and small, on-grid and off ” are an expanding opportunity in Africa, Asia and elsewhere,” he said. “This is a triple win: for communities around the world, for economic growth and for the planet.”

He added that “the world needs bold leadership to make the promise of renewable energy a reality”.

POWER-GEN Middle East conference and exhibition will be taking in Qatar on February 6-8 2012 and will include conference sessions on strategic issues facing the region’s power industry and the latest technology being employed. For more information please click here.
