On-site renewables to benefit tea-maker

Wagh Bakri Tea Group has turned to rooftop solar for its Dholka manufacturing facility, located in the northwest state of Gujarat in India, as part of a wider effort to cut its carbon footprint.

Wagh Bakri, which is one of the world’s leading packaged tea companies, has installed a 125 kW solar PV rooftop facility at a cost of around Rs 1 crore (USD150,000).

The solar facility comprises an estimated 400 solar panels, each capable of generating 300 W per day, and will meet 20% of the energy requirements of the factory.

Mr. Parag Desai, Executive Director of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, confirmed: “We shall increase [the rooftop solar PV plant’s] capacity in the near future.
