Associated Press reports that with 75 acres available for lease, city officials say the project could generate 20 MW of renewable energy. That’s enough to power 6000 homes.

Deputy Mayor Cas Holloway said that if it is successful, the project will more than double the city’s renewable energy capacity.

Andrew Darrell of the Environmental Defense Fund’s New York office said clean energy projects like this one “put us on a path to a future with healthy air and economic growth.”
