London fire stations switch to on-site renewables

The proposed PV installations are a part of a wider campaign to use micro-renewable technologies to reduce carbon emissions from the stations. This commitment to on-site renewable energy is reported to be the largest single public sector display of a carbon reduction initiative in Britain, and discussions are already underway to kit out a further 20 fire stations with similar renewable technologies, says Solarcentury.

Austrian Energy & Environment has won a major contract to build a 140 MW cogeneration station for Condamine Power Station Pty Ltd in Queensland, Australia. The order is worth Euro95 million and the plant is scheduled to come online in August 2009 after 24 months’ construction time.
