Japanese group to build 250 MW solar power station in Bulgaria

Toshiba, Tokyo Electric Power Company and the Japanese government will come together to build one of the world’s biggest solar power stations in Bulgaria.

According to the Nikkei business daily, the power plant – slated to cost about $1.22bn will be built in the eastern city of Yambol by the end of 2011. With an output capacity of 50 MW, to be expanded to 250 MW in five years, the plant is a step in Bulgaria’s bid to pave the way for obtaining 16 per cent of its power from renewable energy sources by 2020.

Toshiba, Tokyo Electric, Itochu and the Japanese government-backed Innovation Network Corporation will set up a local joint venture, the daily said.
