Georgia Power bought a series of proposed solar projects of up to 1 MW in Murray County, Ga., and plans to sell the energy on the wholesale market. The series of plants will be co-developed by United Renewable Energy LLC and Mack Creek Energy LLC.

Georgia Power plans to sell the output from the facility to Dalton Utilities, which is leasing Georgia Power property for the solar facility. In turn, Dalton Utilities, which will buy all of the plant’s capacity and energy through a 25-year power purchase agreement.

The plant will be built by United Renewable Energy and will be owned and operated by Georgia Power, a unit of Southern Co. The facility’s first phase is expected to begin commercial operations in the spring.

Each phase will comprise about 350 kW. Georgia Power has the option to build two additional 350 kW phases for a total of 1 MW by January 2014.
