A recently commissioned biomass-fired trigeneration plant in Port Marianne in Montpellier, France, is to supply its electrical output to green energy company Enercoop Eletricité.

Designed by the French company Enertime, the 8.5 MW plant – claimed as a first in France –  uses wood from the Languedoc-Roussillon region to generate electricity as well as supply heat to the local heat distribution network. In summer, absorption chillers installed directly in buildings use this energy source for cooling.

The central Port-Marianne facility supplies heat and cooling to a million square meters of housing, offices, shops and public institutions. The majority of the electrical output of 700 kWe is sold Enercoop.

The annual electrical output of the turbine is expected to reach 1 GWh.
