4 July 2002 – India and the Netherlands are planning to co-operate in the arena of renewable energy following the recent signing of a partnership agreement between the Centre for Wind Energy Technology of India and Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands.

The agreement was announced by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Wednesday and follows the tour by an Indian business delegation, which visited the UK, Switzerland and the Netherlands last month.

Co-operation is to be in respect of training, research and development, policy development and institutional capacity building for renewable and technological developments.

The CII noted that the focus of the developed world is moving away from the conventional energy sources to renewable energy. The Netherlands offered 7 per cent reduced prices on ‘green power’, 20 per cent subsidies from the European Union and 25 per cent subsidy from the government on promoting renewables and technological developments, the release said.
