A portable natural gas-fuelled microturbine cogeneration plant is set for installation at Burlington Hydro Electric Inc (BHEI) offices in Burlington, Ontario, Canada as part of a pilot project being undertaken by the company to explore options for potential district heating and cogeneration.

Once operational the system will produce some 90 kWe and sufficient heat for most of the BHEI building, the company says.

BHEI has committed to demonstrating technologies and evaluating their effectiveness in commercial and larger residential buildings by undertaking certain pilot projects through its affiliate, Burlington Electricity Services Inc, under the auspices of the City of Burlington’s Community Energy Plan (CEP).

‘The plant is self-contained and portable, while remaining suitable for permanent relocation in the future,’ said City of Burlington Mayor, Rick Goldring.
