A US-based renewable energy and energy efficiency developer is investing $10m in the development of a combined heat and power plant in Alberta, Canada.

Blue Earth Inc has arranged the funds in debt financing with Jackson Investment Group LLC buying 12 per cent according to a statement on Thursday. The bonds become payable Sept. 10 if not converted.

Blue Earth also is using a combination of debt and equity to build a combined-heat-and-power plant in Sumter, South Carolina, that’s expected to begin generating power this quarter.

The total investment being made in both facilities is $35m and Blue Earth holds a 40 percent stake in both power plants.
