Biomass CHP plant approved for British Midlands

Clean energy developer React Energy has announced it has secured planning permission for a 12 MW Clay Cross biomass combined heat and power plant in Derbyshire, England.
SeeNews reports that Clay Cross Biomass, 90 per cent owned by React, was given the green light by Derbyshire County Council, subject to conditions, to build and operate the facility.

The plant is expected to process around 80,000 tonnes per year of construction and demolition waste wood which is currently sent to landfill to provide up to 12 MW of electricity and up to 14 MW of thermal energy.

React estimates the facility would be commissioned in about 18 months from obtaining finance.
