Germany’s Weltec Biopower is set to build a biogas-fuelled combined heat and power (CHP) plant for Colombia’s largest egg producer, the company has announced.

The 800 kW anaerobic digestion plant for Incubadora Santander, which produces 3.5 million eggs per day, will use dry chicken manure as feedstock to produce power and process heat.

Weltec said plant modules such as the ready-for-operation CHP plant, the preinstalled pump and control technology and the stainless-steel panels for the tanks will be transported to the plant location in maritime containers from Germany that will pass through the Panama Canal.

The project is scheduled to come online in 2017.
