Belgium energy ministry plans to solicit offers for offshore wind

Dec. 21, 2000à‚–Belgium’s energy ministry said December 21 that it plans to issue an international solicitation early next year for proposals to install some 200 MW of offshore wind energy capacity, according to the AFX news service.

Belgium places the total potential of its offshore areas in the North Sea at 1,000 MW, the article said, and would be expecting the wind plants that are developed to begin production in 2002 or early 2003. It quoted a ministry spokesman as saying that Electrabel SA, Belgium’s state utility, and a Danish consortium would be expected to submit bids.
