23 April 2002 – Australian renewable energy company, Primergy Ltd has announced a name-change to Novera Energy Ltd.
Novera Energy is the name of Primergy’s European business. A resolution approving the name change was passed at the company’s recent annual general meeting in Sydney.
“We became aware that we could face potential trademark issues in Europe relating to the use of the Primergy name,” said chief executive officer Len Humphreys. “Use of the Novera Energy name has already commenced in the UK and will be rolled out in Australia with immediate effect.”
Novera Energy Ltd, which has successfully raised almost A$45m ($24.2m) in private equity, intends to seek an Australian Stock Exchange listing in the future to allow the company to take advantage of the domestic and global market potential in the renewable energy industry.
Novera Energy is one of the largest landfill gas power companies in the UK, owning and operating 36 MW of power plants at sites in England and Wales. The company was established in 1998 by a team of internationally experienced energy and infrastructure specialists in response to the growing market for renewable energy.
Novera Energy said its core objective is to produce renewable energy at low cost, using established technologies with the highest degree of community acceptance. The company has adopted a ‘portfolio approach’ to building the business, developing, acquiring and operating a range of proven generating technologies, with an initial emphasis on landfill gas and wind power in the UK and Australia.
