$26m contract for Jamaican hydro power plant

The Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) has signed a US$26m contract for the construction of a new hydroelectric power plant in Maggotty, St Elizabeth.

Kier Construction Limited will undertake the design, engineering and construction of the power plant which is expected to add 6.3MW of power to the national grid, while increasing the JPS’s fleet of hydroelectric power stations to nine.

The new Maggotty power plant will be commissioned by November 2013.
