Dalkia Energia has opened its $108.7m biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant in the city of Pecs, Hungary.

The project has the capacity to generate 35 MW of power and 70 MW of heat from 240,000 tonnes a year of straw feedstock and it is estimated the plant will cut CO¬2 emissions by around 150,000 tonnes a year.

The new plant will provide 60% of the city’s demand for the district heating, which comprises 31,000 flats and 450 institutions.
