Umm Al-Qura Cement Company, based in Saudi Arabia, has placed an order with Wärtsilä for a 47 MW on-site power plant.

To be located in the mountain desert close to Taif city, the equipment will be delivered by February 2015 and the project is due to enter commercial operation by October 2015.

Consisting of five 20-cylinder Wärtsilä 32TS engines with two-stage turbochargers, the power plant will serve a cement factory in temperatures up to 50°C and at an altitude above 1000 metres.

‘This engine is tailor-made for hot conditions. That’s why we call it the “sauna” engine,’ says Lars-Åke Kjell, Regional Director at Wärtsilä Power Plants.
