EU funding for research into solid oxide fuel cells

The European Union has awarded a grant of à¢â€š¬ 5.8 million to a European consortium to develop large Solid Oxide Fuel Cell-based (SOFC) power plants. The project, Towards a Large SOFC Power Plant, started in January and has a total budget of à¢â€š¬ 11 million

US-based Nexterra Energy Corp. has completed delivery of a 72 MMBtu/hour gasification system to Johnson Controls Inc.; the technology is a key component of a $16 million biomass cogeneration plant which Johnson is building for the University of South Carolina. The plant is scheduled to be completed and commissioned in the second quarter of this year.
