Sulzer wins safety pump orders for Finnish CHP plant

Sulzer has won two orders to supply key safety pumps for Finland‘s 30 MWe/450 MWth Kilpilahti combined heat and power (CHP) plant, which is currently under construction.

The orders include 12 feedwater pumps and 11 centrifugal pumps, Sulzer said.

An order from Spanish EPC contractor Técnicas Reunidas includes 12 feedwater pumps for steam and power production, with one of the pumps to be driven by a steam turbine. These pumps will be manufactured in Sulzer’s factory in Bruchsal, Germany and are expected to be delivered by early summer.

The second order from Valmet includes 11 centrifugal pumps, also slated for installation at the Kilpilahti plant. These pumps will be manufactured in Finland and are planned for delivery this spring. They will be installed in the flue gas cleaning systems in two of the three boiler plants that Valmet will deliver to Técnicas Reunidas, Sulzer said.

Located in the town of Porvoo, Kilpilahti is jointly owned by Neste Oil, which holds a 40 per cent stake; CHP developer Veolia (40 per cent), which will operate the plant; and petrochemicals firm Borealis (20 per cent).

The plant is expected to come online next year and will supply power to the Finnish grid as well as heat to both Neste’s refinery and Borealis’s petrochemical facility at the site.à‚
