Siemens is to provide the technology behind Turkey’s largest cogeneration plant, which will itself serve the world’s largest solution mining plant at Kazan in Ankara province.

The German multinational will supply a gas and steam turbine package for the Ciner Kazan Soda combined cycle cogeneration power plant (CHP) for China’s Tianchen Engineering Corporation (TCC) who will act as turnkey EPC contractor in the project. The end customer is Kazan Soda Electric Company of the Ciner Group in Turkey. Commercial operation is scheduled for the end of 2017.

The Ciner Kazan cogeneration plant will supply 230 tonnes of process steam per hour and 320 MW of power for the new Ciner Group’s soda ash processing plant.

Siemens is supplying a tailor-made cogeneration solution based on F-class power plant technology. The company’s scope of supply consists of an SGT5-4000F gas turbine, a dual casing SST-800/600 steam turbine, an SGen-1200A generator, an SGen-100A generator and the related electrical and I&C equipment. Soda ash is an essential base material for various industries.

“The Kazan Project of the Ciner Group consists of three main plants; namely the largest solution mining plant in the world, one of the largest dense soda ash and sodium bicarbonate plants in the world and the largest cogeneration power plant in Turkey. The Ciner Group is pleased to cooperate with Siemens in the Kazan soda project and has full trust in Siemens, as both parties collaborated previously and achieved successful results in challenging projects,” stated Gürsel Usta, President of Ciner Energy & Mining Group.
