Romanian cogen development

Energy developer S.C. Vest Energo SA is to build a 14 MW cogeneration plant in Bucharest to support the modernization of its local heating districts.

The project will use GE Energy’s Jenbacher gas engines, the second commercial deployment of the new J624 GS 24 cylinder model.

The plant will support Romania’s National Energy Efficiency Action Plan to aggressively modernize the country’s municipal and industrial district heating networks, GE says.

Rod Christie, CEO of GE Energy for Central & Eastern Europe, Russia & CIS, said: ‘Many [central and eastern European countries] are taking advantage of advancements in energy technologies, liberalization of energy sector and access to funding in order to upgrade their existing energy infrastructure.’
