A Puerto Rican restaurant chain in the path of Hurricanes Irma and Maria has retained power thanks to a backup power system from Capstone Turbine, the company said this week.

Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen kept its lights on after Maria knocked out all grid power on the island on Wednesday.

The restaurant had installed two propane-fuelled C65 microturbines (pictured) earlier this year to provide primary power and prepare for grid failures.

In the aftermath of the hurricanes, Capstone said its local distributor Energy Systems of the Caribbean dispatched service providers to assess any damage to units in the area.

“We are pleased to report that the power plant remains fully operational, making the chain restaurant one of the few businesses in Puerto Rico currently with power,” Capstone said.
