On-site power plant for Emirates Aluminium

UAE-based Target Engineering Construction Company, a subsidiary of Arabtec Holding, has won a $19 million contract on the Emirates Aluminium (Emal) on-site power plant, which will supply 200 MW of electricity to Emal’s planned aluminium smelter at Taweelah, UAE. The contract covers above-ground electrical and instrumentation work.

The gas-fired power plant will use GE gas turbines, steam turbines, heat-recovery steam generators and condensers. Canada’s SNC Lavalin and Australia’s WorleyParsons are the joint engineering, procurement and construction management contractors on the power plant project.

The first phase of the smelter will have capacity of 700,000 tonnes of aluminium a year, with a second phase of the project bringing total production capacity to 1.4 million tones.
