Mozambique’s Kuvaninga Energia has placed an order with Clarke Energy for the supply of 10 GE Jenbacher J624 natural gas engines for a 40 MW on-site independent power project.

To be located near the town of Chokwé, in the southern Mozambique province of Gaza, the engines are scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2014 and in addition Clarke will provide maintenance services.

The on-site power plant’s units will generate electricity for Mozambique’s southern grid and will be operated by ADC Projects. It will utilise domestically-produced gas.

‘The Kuvaninga Energia project with Clarke Energy illustrates the growing demand for distributed power technologies that support the local energy security, economic development and healthcare needs of developing countries in Africa and throughout the world,’ said Lorraine Bolsinger, president and CEO of GE’s Distributed Power business.
