The Tognum Group and Swiss company Hug Engineering AG are to form a joint venture to co-operate on exhaust treatment technologies that will curb emissions.

The new company will headquartered in Switzerland and aims to ensure that large MTU diesel engines in the 2000, 4000 and 8000 series can be fitted with exhaust after treatment systems as a standard feature in the future.

Systems under investigation are to include SCR (selective catalytic reduction) systems to curb NOx.

Dr. Gerd-Michael Wolters, Tognum board member responsible for Technology & Operations explained: ‘In the next few years, we will be working with Hug to develop MTU-specific filter and SCR technologies through to standard-production maturity.’ He added: ‘From 2011, we will be ready for standard production.’

The joint venture plans to invest up to €6 million over the next few years.
