Cogeneration delivers for Australian club

An Australian leisure club is making significant savings, by virtue of its cogeneration system.

Castle Hill RSL in New South Wales has embraced an energy saving strategy that is set to save AUS $76,850 annually, while reducing its carbon footprint.

The club has been using a cogeneration energy system since September 15, 2011, and is already saving thousands of dollars each month, say the Hill Shire Times.

“After just five months of operation, the cogeneration system installed by Simons Green Energy has significantly reduced energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions,” a club spokeswoman said.

“The club’s investment is projected to deliver a return of over 15 per cent per annum over the life of the system, with potentially more as grid-based electricity prices rise over the next several years.”

The cogeneration plant was designed and installed by Simons Green Energy. It supplies 70 per cent of the building’s electricity demand and provides the hot water required for their four swimming pools, its showers and for other hot water needs.

The cogeneration system comprises a 142 kilowatt (kWe) reciprocating gas engine, a series of heat exchangers and a hot water storage tank.
