Awards honour UK CHP achievements

The 2011 CHPA Awards were presented at this week’s UK CHP Association’s annual conference, with five categories of winners from across the CHP and district heating sectors.

The Innovation Award winner was Vital Energi Utilities and Cynergin Consultants for The National Sports Centre in Crystal Palace.

The project was described as “particularly innovative” for utilising waste heat from the gas engine exhaust to enhance efficiency and performance.

The Industrial and Commercial Award went to Siemens for its work at UPM Caledonian paper mill In Irvine, where a CHP plant incorporating Siemens technologies has helped UPM significantly reduce its carbon dioxide emissions.

The Public Sector Award went to the Olympic Delivery Authority with Cofely GDF SUEZ for the Olympic Park and Stratford City.

The Community and Residential Award was presented to Regeneco for its net zero carbon new development at Graylingwell Park

Finally, Bill Clark, Sustainability Policy manager at Southampton City Council won the Champion Award, noting the city’s growing use of CHP in district energy.
