A natural gas-fired AE-T100NG MT has been successfully commissioned on a hilltop resort overlooking the world famous Lake Garda in Italy.
The combined heat and power system is feeding the Leafy Resort Wellness Spa in Gargnano (BS), twice voted the best Spa in the world in 2016. The luxury facility was recognized with both a World Spa and Wellness Award 2016 (best SPA destination in the world) and a Connoisseur Circle Hospitality Award 2016 (Best luxury hotel from 1000 prestigious hotels worldwide).

The trigenerative plant comprises:
à‚·à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ Ansaldo Energia AE-T100 Micro Gas Turbine adding to the existing turbine already in situ. Together these provide an electrical availability of 200 kWe and a thermal availability of more than 300 kWth (in the form of hot water), both cover respective energetic baseloads;
à‚·à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ Part of full hot water flow produced by both turbines is provided to a Li-Br absorption chiller which generates cooling energy in the form of cold water. Absorber-available cooling power reaches 200 kWf and cold water goes to the resort at 5à‚°C and backs at 8à‚°C.
Also included inside this technical area are:
à‚·à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ a biomass boiler (fed by woodchips) and
à‚·à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ à‚ a high-efficiency natural gas boiler,
both producing hot water to cover thermal peak demand along colder seasons.

The solution also caters for the hotel’s specifications with regard to noise pollution by having 73-dBa noise minimizing equipment housed in a small cabinet. The AE-T100 trigeneration system also minimizes emissions to less that the conservative threshold of 15 ppm(v) for both NOx and CO (ISO-Cs).
In fitting with the high standards of the spa, a high-speed gas turbine rotor running at 70.000 rpm, eliminates vibrations from the process of providing power, heat and cooling.
Ori says all of these details permit Lefay Resort to comply with ambitious environmental-care targets. “Indeed their attainments have been documented every year as part of the resort’s Sustainability Report, which is a very important document for all companies these days, but moreover for luxury accommodations where everything must be at the highest levels of quality, power technologies included.”
