March 23, 2001–Alstom and Izar Manises have been awarded a turnkey contract to extend a diesel power plant at the Clifton Pier power plant in Nassau, in the Bahamas.
The contract, worth over $35 million Euros (US $34 million), was placed by the Bahamas Electricity Corporation.
Financing for the project is from a group of international banks established in the Bahamas.
Alstom Power will be responsible for the turnkey design and plant engineering and will supply the electrical generator as well as the control systems and balance of the plant.
Izar-Manises, a subsidiary of the newly established Spanish naval construction group, Izar Construccionnes Navales SA, will supply the MAN B&W two-stroke diesel engine and will design the generator set.
When it enters operation in 18 months, the new unit will have a power output of 31.5 MW. Alstom and Izar-Manises also supplied the existing unit at the plant, which has been performing satisfactorily since its commissioning in October of 1999.
