GE’s Distributed Power business has received an order for the first Jenbacher gas engine on-site power project in Algeria.
A 1 MW Jenbacher J320 engine (pictured) will be supplied to Plastpaper’s industrial plastic goods factory in the city of Oran. Plastpaper is installing the gas engine to prevent grid disturbances from affecting the facility’s plastics extrusion production process.
The project comes as part of a US$161 million contract for GE’s Distributed Power which includes supplying national power company Sonelgaz with eight trailer-mounted TM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbine-generators in a peaking power and grid support role.
Energy demand in Algeria is estimated to be growing at an average annual rate of approximately 14% rising from about 12 GW now to an estimated 24 GW by 2017.
