UK district heating supplier Switch2 Energy has won the Housing Excellence Supplier of the Year award for lifetime achievement in community and district heating.

Switch2 says it supplies more than 70,000 homes across 500 community and district heating schemes in partnership with private developers, local authorities and housing associations.

Within the firm’s smart metering partnerships with Sheffield City Council and Newport City Homes (NCH), residents of 6000 homes connected to Sheffield’s heat network are predicted to reduce their total annual heat bill by £1.4m ($1.8m), while Switch2 said more than 750 homes connected to NCH’s Duffryn district heating scheme have halved their energy consumption.

Awards judge Mary-Kathryn Rallings Adams, deputy CEO of housing innovation agency HACT, said the panel had been “really impressed with Switch2’s focus on fuel poverty and by the excellent evidence provided from a number of clients on how they are delivering both efficient and reliable services. Their focus on customer service is particularly impressive.”
