According to the government, the 2009 Budget sets the world’s first carbon budgets, as required by the new Climate Change Act. These set a legally binding 34% reduction in emissions by 2020 with respect to 1990 levels, a new level of ambition for UK climate policy.

Utility group Vattenfall has signed an agreement to supply district cooling to a new IKEA store in Denmark, located in Odense on the island of Fyn.

IKEA’s store, which will be one of the biggest in the Nordic region, is to be completed as early as November 2009 when district cooling is to be used to achieve climate control by means of chilled water that is piped into the building.
