BKK Varme AS, the company which supplies Norway’s second city Bergen with district heating using a waste incinerator situated outside the city centre, is expanding its capacity with a new peaking boiler.

Currently, peak load is supplied from heating plants based on oil, gas or electricity but as the district heating grid in Bergen is under expansion, BKK Varme will establish a new 25 MW peak load heating plant using a High Voltage Electrode Boiler from PARAT Halvorsen AS. To be located in Dokken, close to the cruise ship terminal in the centre of Bergen, the new boiler will deliver 120°C hot water to the grid in the centre of Bergen.

The installation is due to be finalised and ready for operation by the end of 2015.
