New woodchip-fired heat plant in Finland

Fortum and Genencor International Oy have agreed to build a thermal power plant utilising woodchip fuel in connection with the Genencor production facility in Hanko, Finland.

The plant’s output capacity will be 18 MW of industrial steam for Genencor and district heating for the town of Hanko. The plant will be commissioned by the end of 2009.

The new thermal plant is a response to the increased need for energy in industry as well as for district heating in the Hanko area. The plant will use domestic renewable bio-fuels, replacing current utilised heavy fuel oil.
