Hungary’s drive to upgrade district heating with CHP

In place since 2002, the country’s energy efficiency initiative promotes the increased use of CHP in the district heating sector. The programme promotes the increased use of combined generation of power and heat, enabling primary energy savings of roughly 40% compared to the costs associated with equipment for separate generation. Since the initiative went into effect, GE Energy has delivered Jenbacher gas engines capable of producing a total of roughly 220 MW of power to district heating customers in Hungary.

UK-based Centrax Gas Turbines has signed a contract to supply three 5.3 MW CX501-KB7 dual fuel generator sets, to be installed to provide heat and power to the fixed Mexilhàƒ£o platform, offshore Brazil. Centrax’s customer for the sets is Mauàƒ¡ Jurong, a major EPC contractor in Brazil.
