Finnish solar thermal company Savo-Solar is to deliver a solar thermal district heating system to France’s Veolia EHCM after signing a letter of intent.

The system will provide heat for the city of Voreppe in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Details of the contract will be finalized over the next several weeks, Savo-Solar said, with delivery scheduled for the autumn.

The €90,000 ($102,000) contract represents Savo-Solar’s first district heating system delivery to France and the firm said it will open the door for further co-operation with the Veolia Group, which operates in 48 countries.

It added that France is a fast-growing market for solar thermal solutions and the Rhône-Alpes region is actively promoting the development of solar thermal heating both locally and in Europe.

The company won the Intersolar Award in 2011 for the heat loss-minimizing design of its solar collectors.
