Dalkia acquires district heating network in China

Harbin has a population of 9.5 million people, nearly half of which live in the city centre. The city’s particularly harsh climate, with temperatures averaging -24à‚°C in January, offers a very favourable environment for the development of district heating networks, says Dalkia. The Southwest network will eventually provide heating to more than 17 million m2 of building space in a 52 km2 area. At a future date, the network will be supplied by a cogeneration plant, adds Dalkia.

A Colombian manufacturer of pasta products has installed a CHP system from Cummins Power Generation Inc. to generate more reliable electricity and produce heat for pasta drying. The company estimates that it has also reduced its electricity purchases by 60% and its fossil fuel purchases by 70%, resulting in a savings of approximately US$50,000 per month on its energy bills.
