Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has won a turnkey contract to supply equipment for a gas-fired district heating project in Uzbekistan, the company announced this week.

The 450 MW Navoi 2 plant, to be located in the city of Navoi around 350 km southwest of Tashkent, is being built by state utility Uzbenenergo. The facility is planned to come online in 2019, and to deliver power for the local area, district heating and process steam for the Navoi Free Industrial Economic zone.

The site adjoins the existing Navoi 1 plant (pictured), for which MHPS supplied the same equipment in 2013.

The scope of work includes design, procurement and manufacturing of the main equipment including a M701F gas turbine, a steam turbine and a generator from Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, as well as auxiliary equipment including the air cooled condenser and gas compressor. MHPS will also be responsible for marine transportation and commissioning.

Mitsubishi Corporation, as a consortium partner, will procure the remaining electrical components and will handle inland transportation, all civil works, and installation works at the site, MHPS said.
