There was widespread reporting about the plight of East Coast hospitals in the US, which have had to evacuate vulnerable patients as a result of power outages caused by Hurricane Sandy.
While in New York, alternative care had to be sought for many patients, in Connecticut, the 371-bed Danbury hospital weathered the storm using a cogeneration plant, which spokeswoman Andrea Rynn said provides steam power when it needs to come off the local utility grid.
