City of Binghamton

The City of Binghamton and the Village of Endicott, both located in New York State in the USA, are each to receive around $100,000 from the state to study the feasibility of installing community microgrids.

Awarded money as part of the NY Prize microgrid scheme, the competition drew proposals from more than 130 municipalities looking for funding for microgrid projects.

City of BinghamtonBinghamton’s proposed microgrid would include combined heat and power, solar energy and hydroelectric and supply power to City Hall, the police and fire departments, and the Binghamton Water Treatment Plant, among others.

Endicott’s proposal would provide power to the Huron Business Park and the village using an existing heat distribution network with a combined heat and power plant and additional power from solar, energy storage and demand-response technology.
